COURSE DESIGN

The 13th Head and Neck Emergencies Simulation Course (October 2024). This one-day course features immersive simulations in a dedicated facility. Simulations are accompanied by seminars and group feedback. The focus of this course is on patient safety during ENT emergencies, rather than operative technique or clinical knowledge (though some technical aspects will be covered). Topics include: avoidable error; communication techniques during emergencies; good leadership and good followership.

Immersive simulations centre on one or two attendees, who act in their current capacity (ie CT2 as CT2). You will be placed in important ENT emergency situations, some of which will only occur once or twice in a career. There will be professional facilitators playing the roles of other members of the healthcare team. There is training and feedback after each simulation session.

This course has previously counted as a non-technical skills/human factors course for ARCP and CCT.

CANDIDATES

Aimed at F2 to ST8 and Peri-CCT Fellows in ENT and OMFS.

The course is limited to 8 candidates.
